Canadian Centre recommends back to school safety habits
For Immediate Release
Winnipeg, MB: The Canadian Centre for Child Protection reminds parents that back to school is a great time of year to review safety strategies with their child. Safety Habits for Life is for children of all ages and will help build their safety competence and confidence.
“Our recommended Safety Habits for Life helps busy Canadian parents share critical safety strategies with their family so that every child’s school year is a safe one,” says Noni Classen, Director of Education at the Canadian Centre.
The five core strategies featured as Safety Habits for Life are important for children to use throughout their lifetime. Strategies include the importance of always using the buddy system, knowing when a secret needs to be told and setting boundaries about personal space.
"It's essential we empower children by building their safety competence,” says Classen, “Parents can do this by setting time aside to have conversations with their kids on an ongoing basis and practicing these strategies regularly.”
