Survey opportunity for survivors and their parents who were shown CSAM
Thank you for your interest in our project!
The Canadian Centre for Child Protection has created a survey about the practice of showing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to survivors and their parents/guardians during interviews, investigations, or legal proceedings.
Although this practice occurs in Canada and the U.S.A., little is known about survivors’ and their parents’ experiences and perspectives. What we learn will inform our continued efforts to address knowledge gaps and ensure survivors and their parents are receiving the support they need.
Instead of posting the survey publicly, we are reaching survivors and their parents through professionals to limit participation to people who are known survivors and parents who are in a place to be able to participate. For this reason, we ask that you do not publicly post the survey invitation (below).
If you are connected to anyone who would be interested in participating, we’d be grateful if you shared the invitation below with them.
Finally, if you’d like to see a copy of the survey before distributing it, or have any questions, please email me at katelin@protectchildren.ca.
Thanks for your support,

Template email survey invitation for CSAM survivors and their parents:
Dear _______,
We wanted to let you know about a survey that might be of interest to you, run by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, a likeminded organization dedicated to the protection of all children.
************************************************************************
You’re invited to participate in a 10-minute, anonymous, online survey if you:
- Are 16 years old or older, and
- Are either a survivor of child sexual abuse material, or the parent/guardian of a survivor of child sexual abuse material, and
- Were shown the imagery during an investigation or legal proceeding in Canada and/or the U.S.A., and
- Are currently living in Canada or the U.S.A.
The survey is available in English and French. It asks questions about your experiences with, and opinions about, this practice. You won’t be asked to describe the abuse or exploitation itself, and you can decide which questions you’d like to answer.
The survey is run by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P), a charity dedicated to the protection of all children. In C3P’s earlier international surveys, survivors of child sexual abuse material and their parents shared that they were shown their abuse or exploitation imagery during an investigation, interview, or legal proceeding. To deepen C3P’s understanding of this practice and how it impacts survivors, they have worked with international experts to create a short survey.
What C3P learns will inform their continued efforts to address systemic gaps and ensure survivors and their parents are receiving the support they need.

If you have any questions, please contact C3P’s study coordinator, Katelin, at katelin@protectchildren.ca.
